Sources said Lipi, a resident of Tengnamal village under Lakhanpur block in Jharsuguda district, gave birth to a baby girl on April 28. Her husband, Debaraj Gand, who is currently posted with the SSB, was by her side during the delivery. However, complications arose soon after, and she was admitted to the ICU at VIMSAR in a critical, unconscious condition from April 29.

Despite her deteriorating condition, Debaraj was called back to duty at the border and, just two days ago, had to leave his wife and newborn behind to report for service.

Lipi’s passing has cast a pall of grief over the family and local community. The newborn baby girl is reported to be healthy and under care.
