Puri, Jan 27: Social outfits and petty vendors have staged protests in the sea demanding the reopening of the Puri Jagannath temple. Activists of Sri Jagannath Sena, a Puri-based social organisation, and members of the Small Traders’ Association went on watery satyagraha at the Puri seabeach on Thursday. Mounting placards and raising slogans, the protesters urged the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to open up the Shree Mandir as soon as possible for the common devotees and visitors. Worth mentioning, the Puri Jagannath temple has been shut for the common visitors since January 9 due to the surge of Covid cases across the state. Consequently, the livelihood of a large number of petty vendors has been badly hampered due to no outside visitors to the shrine.
