Skyrocketing tomato prices pinch pockets in Odisha

25/11/2021 at 3:35 PM

Bhubaneswar, Nov 25: The rise in the price of tomatoes, one of the most important kitchen staples, has compounded the woes of consumers in Odisha.

The price of tomatoes reached Rs 100 per kilo which was earlier being sold at Rs 60 to Rs 70 in Bhubaneswar. Besides, other vegetables like Beans are being sold at Rs 60, brinjal at Rs 40, and cauliflower at Rs 50.

According to the reports, the production of vegetables in the state is not enough to meet the demand of the people.

Meanwhile, the untimely rainfall in Bangalore and Andhra Pradesh has affected the harvest process which leads to disruption in the import-export cycle.

Less supply and huge demand in the market is the reason for the hike in prices of vegetables in the state, said reports.
