Berhampur, May 22: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed profound grief over a devastating road accident in Ganjam district that claimed the lives of six people. In a move to support the bereaved families, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

Each of the next of kin of the deceased will receive ₹4 lakh. The Chief Minister has also instructed local authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured and wished them a speedy recovery.

The tragic incident occurred at Ladkapalli Square under Purusottampur Police Station, where a speeding passenger bus collided with an auto-rickshaw, dragging it nearly 100 metres. Six people traveling in the auto-rickshaw were killed on the spot.

Reports indicate that the auto-rickshaw was carrying 10 members of a single family who were on their way to Maa Singhasini temple. The bus reportedly lost control due to excessive speed and fled the scene after the collision.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and rescue efforts continue for the injured passengers.
