Keonjhar, July 5: Ten days after a daring daylight robbery at Narayan Jewellers in Harichandanpur’s main market, police have arrested six suspects in connection with the case and produced them before the court.
The robbery, which occurred around 6:45 PM on June 25, saw a group of armed miscreants arrive on motorcycles and storm the jewellery store. Brandishing firearms and sharp weapons, the assailants threatened the shop owner and employees, looting gold and silver ornaments worth over ₹2 crore before fleeing the scene. The attackers also reportedly fired shots and physically assaulted the shop owner during the heist.
Keonjhar Superintendent of Police visited the crime scene soon after the incident and launched an intensive investigation. The area was sealed off, and multiple police teams were deployed to track down the culprits. A special task force was formed, which conducted raids at various locations across the state.
During a press briefing, SDPO Vijay Kumar Mahapatra and IIC Debaki Nayak confirmed the recovery of some looted gold and silver ornaments, three mobile phones, and three motorcycles from the accused.
The six arrested individuals have been identified as, Biki Patra, Jagu Patra, and Ajit Pattnayak of Kendrapara district, Jagannath Ghadei of Cuttack, Indramani Mohant of Jajpur, Buddhadev Mohant of Bailbeda village of Harichandanpur.
Three of the accused had been apprehended earlier, while the remaining three were arrested recently. All six have now been forwarded to court.
Police continue to investigate whether more individuals were involved in the heist.
