From a humble beginning over 25 years ago, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University, known more by its acronym SOA, has emerged as a shining academic edifice today which has illuminated the educational skyline of eastern India.
A socially inclusive institution of higher education focused on quality education and innovative research, SOA has been churning out professionals in varied fields ready to meet the requirements and challenges of different sectors.
Coming into existence on July 17, 2007 when the Government conferred on it the status of a Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, SOA is considered as a centre of superlative professional education today. SOA has been ranked 16th in the country by NIRF in the just released rankings for 2022 making it the third best university in eastern region.
SOA’s vision is to become a leading institution of higher learning in its chosen areas to prepare future generations through quality teaching and innovative research. Its mission is to become responsible, enlightened and productive citizens.
Already a name to reckon with in the realm of higher learning, SOA reached a huge milestone recently when National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredited the university with the highest Grade A++ with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.88 out of 4.

Message from Prof. (Dr.) Manojranjan Nayak, Founder president, SOA
‘A dream doesn’t become a reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination and hard work’, said Collin Powell, former US Secretary of State.
As we look back on Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan’s journey spanning a quarter century, our experience matches the above statement of the renowned US army officer and diplomat.
SOA, as our university is popularly known, has faced numerous difficulties and obstacles in its endeavour to develop as a multi-disciplinary institution of higher education focusing on quality education and focused research. Its rise to be counted as the 16th best university in the country by NIRF is a testimony to the unrelenting effort of its faculty, researchers, staff and students to excel.
As a happy coincidence, the University Grants Commission has also conferred on SOA the status of Category 1 Deemed to be University as per the provisions of the UGC regulations which will entail a lot of autonomy to expand its activities.
On SOA’s 16th Foundation Day, I greet all whose contribution has helped the university to grow and expand over the years. The journey has just started and we have a long road ahead. I am confident that the willingness of the stakeholders to strive for excellence will help SOA reach its destination.
