Bhubaneswar, May 28: A severe Kalbaisakhi storm triggered widespread destruction across Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Thursday evening, uprooting trees, damaging houses, and disrupting normal life in several areas.
It is said that the storm raged for nearly half an hour, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. Strong winds uprooted trees at multiple locations, while roofs of several houses were blown away due to the intensity of the storm.
Electric poles were also damaged in various parts of the district, sparking concerns about disruptions to the power supply.
In the market area, a huge tree collapsed onto a government residential house, completely damaging the structure. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
In various parts of the area, large trees fell on the road leading to the Sub-District Magistrate’s office, causing traffic disruption and inconvenience to commuters.
Local authorities and emergency response teams were engaged in clearing blocked roads and assessing the extent of damage caused by the storm.
