Cuttack: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh today inaugurated the Central Genomics and Quality Laboratory facility at ICAR – National Rice Research Institute (NRRI) in Cuttack and addressed farmers at the Kisan Mela in the presence of Union Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Singh praised the NRRI for its key role in the development of agriculture not only in eastern region but also at the national front. Singh also held discussion with the NRRI officials about the functioning of the institute.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Pradhan said that when Prime Minister Modi took charge, India faced shortage of 4-5 MMT of pulses, which had to be imported.
“Today with pro-farmer initiatives under the leadership of the Prime Minister, India is producing a surplus which has kept price of pulses under control,” said Pradhan.
