Cuttack, Nov 25: A woman official of IIFL had hatched the plot for robbery along with prime accused Lala Amrit Ray, police said today. The woman official identified as Nilima Lenka (34) was arrested along with six others for their involvement in the crime. On November 19, four masked men had barged into the IIFL office in the morning and held the staff at gunpoint before decamping with the gold ornament. Police on Tuesday have cracked the case with arrest of seven accused, including the mastermind (an IIFL executive) and another lady employee of IIFL’s Nayasarak branch. While around 39.5 kg gold was alleged robbed, the police have recovered more than 3kg stolen gold. DCP Prateek Singh said that one of the prime accused Lala Amrut Sagar Ray who has been working in IIFL since 2011 as gold appraiser misappropriated the mortgage gold of general public. “Ray has mortgaged some gold and has sold some gold in the market. The misappropriated gold was huge for which Ray was not in a position to manage in the audit. So he hatched the plot to rob the gold with his associates,” said Singh.
