Senior IFS officer in Odisha found having Rs 9.35 crore disproportionate assets, SIT constituted for further probe

Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: Vigilance sleuths have found senior IFS officer and Additional PCCF of Plan, Program & Afforestation Abhay Kant Pathak of having of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs9.35 crore. Officials said that the disproportionate assets traced so far are 435% of his total income. Earlier in the day the investigating agency has arrested Pathak and his son Akash. Both of them were later sent to the Jharapada jail following rejection of their bail pleas. The Vigilance on Wednesday has raided places at 13 locations including Bhubaneswar, Pune and Mumbai on charges of amassing properties disproportionate to known sources of income of the senior IFS officer. During investigation, the investigating agency has ascertained that cash deposits of about Rs 9.4 crore have been made in the bank accounts of the IFS officer’s son, out of which about Rs 8.4 crore has been deposited at Bhubaneswar. The huge money deposits have been mostly made through ATMs at Saheed Nagar and Nayapalli in Bhubaneswar.   “Details of income tax returns are being ascertained. Investments in shares, mutual funds and other market instruments are also being ascertained. Further, the aspects of benami transactions and properties are also being looked into. In view of the expanding scope of investigation, a 20 member SIT (Special Investigation Team) has been formed to thoroughly investigate all aspects,” said an official.
