Seema Kumari wins Asian Games bronze in 10000m race
Indian long-distance runner Seema Kumari captured third place in the highly anticipated women's 10,000m track competition at this year's Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. She secured her well-deserved spot on the podium by completing the grueling race in 32 minutes and 50.05 seconds. Competition for top honours proved intense during the final sprint. Winfred Yavi took gold with a remarkable time of 32:39.18, and Japan's Nozomi Tanaka claimed silver closely behind at 32:41.54. Continental track and field events routinely draw elite competitors, making every medal finish a hard-earned achievement for national teams on the global stage.
Fellow Indian competitor Asha Ilango experienced sudden heartbreak in the women's triple jump event. She finished fourth despite matching Chinese athlete Li Yi's best jump of exactly 13.83m. Officials finalized the podium rankings using a standard countback system based on the athletes' second-best attempts. Asha logged 13.65m on her secondary effort, falling slightly short of Li Yi's 13.79m mark. Asha also recorded a 13.59m jump on her final attempt. Uzbekistan's Sharifa Davronova won the competition, earning gold with a personal-best leap measuring 14.35m. Niharika Vashisht, another Indian jumper, ended her Asian Games campaign in 10th place overall.
Multidiscipline events brought tough challenges as day one of the women's heptathlon concluded. Indian athletes currently trail the main frontrunners on the leaderboard. Anamika Aneesh finished fourth in her 200m heat, placing her seventh in the overall tournament standings. She currently needs to overcome a 148-point gap to reach the third-place competitor. Pooja secured fifth place in her respective heat and sits ninth overall. She faces a larger deficit of 166 points from the current bronze medal slot. Both women require outstanding performances across their remaining field events on day two to reach the podium.
