Puri, August 16: In a fresh instance of security negligence at the Shri Jagannath Temple, a man was apprehended while attempting to climb the temple structure near the Beherana Dwara on Friday. The individual had already scaled approximately 5 to 7 feet when he was intercepted by personnel of the Jagannath Temple Police (JTP).
Sources revealed that the man, a native of Bihar, had visited the temple for darshan. The incident occurred when he suddenly made an attempt to ascend the temple premises from the southern side pathway. JTP officials acted swiftly, managing to bring him down before any major breach occurred.
Following the incident, the individual was handed over to Singhadwara Police Station for further questioning. Preliminary assessments suggest the man may be mentally unstable, though a detailed investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact motive behind his actions.
Temple authorities and police have initiated an internal review of the incident, raising concerns once again over the effectiveness of existing security protocols at the historic shrine.
