These lists, to be posted on the websites of District Electoral Officers and the state Chief Electoral Officer, must specify reasons for deletion—such as death, migration, or duplicate registration—and be searchable by EPIC number.
The Court also ordered that public notices must clearly state that excluded voters can submit Aadhaar cards when filing claims for inclusion. The ECI must ensure wide publicity via print, electronic, and social media, and complete the exercise by next Tuesday.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi stated that disclosure will enhance voter confidence and questioned why citizens should rely on political parties to determine their status. The matter will be heard again on August 22.
