New Delhi, Nov 29: The Supreme Court on Monday said it would set up a task force to implement directions issued to curb air pollution, in case the state governments do not take actions in accordance with guidelines issued by the top court, the Centre, and the air quality management commission. The bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Surya Kant said, "Closer to create an independent task force as a measure to curb air pollution, if state governments do not take action regarding this." The top court emphasised that directions have been issued and the authorities hope that all will be good. "But, on the ground the result is zero," noted the bench. The apex court has asked the state governments of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana to list down the steps taken by them to comply with the air quality panel’s directions before the next hearing which is scheduled to be held on December 2. The top court has expressed its deep concern over the worsening air pollution in the capital and neighbouring areas.
