New Delhi, Sep 22: The Supreme Court asked the Centre that female aspirants be allowed to appear in the NDA entrance examination in November this year, instead of postponing their induction by one year as pleaded by the government. The direction comes a day after the Defence Ministry informed the Supreme Court that a notification allowing women candidates to appear for the exam would be out by May next year. The apex court said it cannot vacate its interim order to allow women aspirants to take the NDA entrance examination this year. It said that the armed forces are the best response team to deal with any emergency and that it is hopeful that necessary arrangements will be put in place to pave the way for induction of women in the NDA. "Women must be allowed to take the November 2021 exams. Cannot defer for one year. Medical standards should be tentatively notified. UPSC to issue a corrected notification for the November exam," the Supreme Court said.
