Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s young prodigy Sattwik Swain scripted history by emerging champion of the 38th National U-9 Open Chess Championship, which concluded at Gurugram, Haryana on Saturday.
With 1875 Elo rating Sattwik started the championship as the second seeded. Undefeated Sattwik gathered 10 points from 11 rounds and brought the national title to Odisha.
Born in 2016 and representing India, has been making waves in the chess world. His recent triumph at the National Championship is a testament to his growing prowess and dedication to the game.
Interestingly, he had previously secured a silver medal at the World Under-8 Championship in Italy in 2024, so this national title feels like a well-earned crown on his rising journey. His FIDE standard rating has also seen a steady climb, currently standing at 1875—pretty impressive for someone not even in double digits yet.
