Indian rowers Satnam and Salman win Asian Games bronze
Indian rowers Satnam Singh and Salman Khan earned a bronze medal in the men double sculls final at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday. Finishing with a time of 6:13.25, the pair crossed the line just 3.48 seconds behind the gold-winning Chinese team of Yi Xudi and Nie Yide. They finished 2.76 seconds slower than silver medalists Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin. Satnam and Salman held the second position firmly at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m marks. At one stage, they trailed the Chinese leaders by just half a second before falling back in the final stretch. This victory brings the overall national medal count at the ongoing event to 13. India now holds one gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals. Rowing has traditionally been a strong sport for Indian athletes at continental events.
Men singles sculls competitor Balraj Panwar narrowly missed securing a podium spot. He maintained second place through the first 1500 meters of his race. During the crucial final 500 meters, Uzbekistan's Shakhboz Kholmurzaev and Japan's Tatsuya Sakurama overtook him. Despite holding a five-second advantage over Sakurama earlier, Balraj finished eight seconds behind the Japanese rower. He registered a final time of 6:54.80, leaving him 15 seconds behind Chinese gold medalist Zhiwei Deng.
