Bargarh, Sep 29: A sarpanch in Odisha’s Bargarh district has been imposed a penalty of Rs one lakh for defying Covid-19 norms.
The Gaisilet block development officer (BDO) has imposed the fine on Malaba Sahu, sarpanch of Gaurenmunda gram panchayat for organising unauthorised congregation of around 150 people in the block premises to intimidate block officials.
According to reports, the sarpanch had not taken prior permission to allow such congregation of people.
“You had not taken any prior permission to allow such congregation of people, as any congregation by general public beyond 10 persons at a place at any period of time is prohibited for containing the spread of the Covid-19 disease. Hence you are fined Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupee One Lakh) only for violating regulation 4 C of the Odisha Covid-19 regulation. As per Notification No. H FW-SCH-I-COVID-0025-2020 No-19646/H, Dated 31.08.2020 of the Health & Family Welfare Deptt. point no.-3 SI. No.-2, the amount compounding offence for violation of 4 C. i.e. Bar on Congregation,” said a letter issued by the BDO to the sarpanch.
The sarpanch has been directed to deposit the said amount in the office of the undersigned within three days, failing which action will be initiated against him as per the Covid-19 pandemic guideline.
