Sale of spurious BP medicine: Two accused from Bihar brought under transit remand

Cuttack, Sep 25: Commissionerate police has brought two accused involved in sale of spurious BP medicine in Cuttack to Odisha under transit remand. Commissionerate Police on Saturday claimed to have identified two traders, who had supplied spurious BP medicines to different drug wholesale points in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Police said that both the accused will be interrogated to ascertain the involvement of others in the racket. Besides police is also trying to ascertain the source of manufacturing of the spurious medicines. Sale of suspected spurious drug- Telma AM and Telma-40 meant for treating high blood pressure and heart disease was detected in Bhubaneswar in the second week of this month. Subsequently, the Directorate of Drugs Control conducted raids on wholesale points in Cuttack. Samples of both the medicines, especially of a specific batch that was shipped to the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the last two months, have been collected and sent for laboratory tests. The drugs were supplied to the twin cities by manufacturing units in Bengaluru and Bihar.
