Bhubaneswar, Sept 20: The Odisha Assembly on Saturday witnessed pandemonium after members of the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a protest in the House over fertilizer crisis in the State.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi moved an obituary reference condoling the death of former MLA George Tirkey, who passed away at the age of 67 last night.
Following the obituary reference, the Question Hour began at around 10:45 AM with Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan replying to queries of the members.
However, the session was quickly disrupted as BJD legislators stormed into the well of the House raising slogans against the State Government over fertilsier crisis in the State.
Despite multiple appeals by Speaker Surama Padhy to the protesting members to go back to their seats and cooperate in the smooth functioning of the House, the BJD legislators did not relent and continued with their demonstration.
As the pandemonium prevailed, the Speaker adjourned the House till 4 PM.
It is worth noting that the Monsoon Session began on September 18 and will consist of seven business days. It will conclude on September 25, with a one-day break on September 21, which falls on a Sunday.
