Lucknow, Jan 18: Ahead of assembly elections in the state, the police on Monday have seized Rs 22 lakh in cash from the car of a prominent company in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur.
According to sources, a team of Fazalganj police station was conducting a vehicle checking drive in compliance with the model code of conduct at the Char Khamba Quan crossing on Monday afternoon.
During the drive, the police conducted a search in a car and recovered Rs 22 lakh in cash from it. The company’s cashier along with two guards was travelling with the cash in the car.
Police informed that the vehicle belongs to a reputed firm of the city.
When asked to give details with regard to recovered cash, they could not give convincing answers and only said that the money belongs to the company, the police said.
The police have taken the entire cash in its custody and called the flying squad and static surveillance team.
The cash will be released only after the company produces supporting documents, informed the police.
Worth mentioning, on Saturday, the police had seized Rs 50 lakh in cash from the car of the nephew of a BSP leader.
