Bhubaneswar, June 29: In a significant breakthrough under operation “Yatri Surakshya”, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Detective Wing successfully apprehended a criminal gang of six members at the Coaching Complex in Puri. The group was intercepted while conspiring to commit dacoity in night-running trains operating between Puri and Khurda Road section.
Upon interception and search, the RPF team recovered 23 stolen mobile handsets, hard cash amounting to ₹24,450, and other incriminating articles, with the total value of recovered property estimated at ₹7,13,450.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to multiple incidents of mobile phone theft from passengers at railway stations and passenger areas. The accused also actively planning a dacoity in passenger trains.
The apprehended individuals, along with the recovered stolen property, were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Puri. A formal case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This successful operation marks a significant step in ensuring passenger safety and reinforces the ongoing commitment of the Railway Protection Force to secure railway premises and train operations.
