Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: The Covid-19 pandemic has marred the Kartik Purnima celebrations across the state preventing people from taking a holy bath or sailing miniature boats (boita) in ponds and rivers on Friday morning. All major ghats, ponds wore a deserted look in the morning as the government had prohibited any kind of gathering near water bodies. Moreover, prohibitory orders under Sec 144 at major shrines were also imposed at various temple premises. Notably, ‘Kartika Purnima’ is celebrated at the end of the holy Kartika month in Odisha. It is believed that worshipping Lord Vishnu and Shiva and performing the Kartik Snan on this day, bless the devotees with great fortune.
