Bhubaneswar, August 28: Restoration efforts have commenced on the breached embankment of the Kani River in Jajpur district, which gave way on Monday due to heavy rainfall.
Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, stated that the repair work commenced early Thursday and is expected to be completed soon.
The breach, measuring around 30 feet, occurred near the Muslim Sahi dargah in Ahiyas-Kaspa under the Dasarathpur block, allowing floodwaters to gush into low-lying villages. Several areas in the district were inundated as the river and its tributaries swelled due to continuous downpours over the past few days.
Authorities are now working on a war footing to repair the embankment, control the flood situation, and bring normalcy back to the affected villages.
