New Delhi, August 3: Representatives from major social media and digital platforms, including Google, Meta, YouTube, Snapchat, and X, appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology on Monday to discuss the regulation of social and digital media platforms.

The meeting, chaired by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, comes just days after the Centre summoned Meta's global team over the temporary restriction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Facebook post.

Senior government officials, including Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S. Krishnan, also attended the meeting.

The committee deliberated on the subject,"Social and Digital Platforms and Their Regulation," with discussions focusing on the functioning, accountability, and regulatory framework governing major digital and social media platforms in the country.
