Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: The Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved 13 proposals including amendment to the Orissa Civil Service (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989.

In order to provide ample opportunity to participate in the recruitment examinations for the calendar year 2024, the cabinet has enhanced the upper age limit from 32 years to 38 years.

The upper age limit for entry into government service is governed under the Odisha Civil Service (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989. As per the provisions contained under rule 2 of the said rules, the upper age limit for entry into Government Service is 32 (Thirty two) years relaxable in case of ST/SC/SEBC/Women and PwDs as prescribed by the Government from time to time.

Considering delay in recruitment process due to unavoidable reasons, Government had earlier decided to enhance the upper age limit from 32 (thirty two) years to 38 (thirty eight) years for the advertisements made during calendar years 2021, 2022 and 2023 for entry into government service.

In the meanwhile, State Government has framed new Recruitment Rules for different cadres. Further, a number of posts have been created at the base level by way of restructuring of different cadres. Further, seven Combined Recruitment Examination Rules have been notified wherein new syllabus and pattern of examinations have been incorporated. In the OCS recruitment examinations, number of attempts have also been increased.

Hence, in order to provide ample opportunity to participate in the recruitment examinations for the calendar year 2024, it is proposed to extend the similar benefit of enhancement of the upper age limit from 32 to 38 years.

The Cabinet also approved Odisha Lower Excise Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Assistant Sub-inspector of Excise) Rules, 2023.

It also approved restructuring of Treasury District Ministerial Cadre and Framing of the Odisha Treasury Ministerial Service (Method of Recruitment and Condition of Service) Rules, 2023 and Odisha Sub-Ordinate Finance (Treasury Branch) Rules, 2023

Amendment of Odisha Fire Service (Methods of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Group C Officers) Rules 2021 also got the nod of the Cabinet.
