Bhubaneswar, May 14: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday seized unaccounted cash of Rs 6 lakh from the possession of Nina Beura, Superintendent of Excise, Rayagada.
After being tipped off regarding the proceeding of Beura from Rayagada to Bhubaneswar carrying ill-gotten money collected from different sources, the Vigilance team intercepted her near Bhubaneswar at around 11:30 pm last night.
On conducting a thorough personal search, the officials recovered Rs 6 lakhs in cash from her possession, which she could not account for satisfactorily following which she was detained for further questioning.
Following this, searches are being conducted at different residential properties of Beura and her relatives.
On the other hand, her husband, Nihar Ranjan Das, who happens to be Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Mahanga Police Station, on getting a tip-off, fled police station to evade search.
The Vigilance team, on reaching his quarter at Mahanga, found it locked and the IIC untraceable. He has been asked to report to Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division and cooperate for enquiry.
