Ratan Tata, the revered industrialist and philanthropist, was known for his compassion and generosity, qualities that extended far beyond his lifetime. His meticulously crafted will, a testament to his enduring values, not only provides for his family and staff but also ensures the well-being of his beloved canine companion, Tito.
This remarkable act of kindness reflects Tata's deep love for animals and his unwavering commitment to those around him. Tito, a German shepherd adopted by Tata five years ago, will continue to receive loving care from Tata's dedicated cook, Rajan Shaw, as per the provisions outlined in the will.
Caring for those who cared
Tata's thoughtfulness also extends to his devoted butler, Subbiah, who served him faithfully for three decades. The will safeguards Subbiah's welfare and future, a gesture that speaks volumes about Tata's appreciation for loyalty and dedication.
Beyond his immediate household, Tata's will encompasses his foundation, family members, and house staff. His substantial estate, estimated at Rs 10,000 crore, will be distributed among these beneficiaries, including his brother, half-sisters, and his trusted executive assistant, Shantanu Naidu.
Legacy of generosity
In a touching display of generosity, Tata waived off Naidu's education expenses and relinquished his stake in their joint venture, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering entrepreneurship.
The will also reveals Tata's ownership of valuable properties, including a sprawling beach bungalow in Alibaug and a luxurious house in Mumbai, in addition to substantial financial assets.
Foundation for the future
Remarkably, Tata's 0.83 percent stake in Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, will be transferred to the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to social causes and nation-building. This foundation is likely to be chaired by N Chandrasekaran, the current chairman of Tata Sons
Ratan Tata's will is more than just a legal document; it's a reflection of his character, his values, and his enduring legacy of compassion. It's a testament to a man who not only built a business empire but also touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity.
