Kendrapara, July 29: A rare pink flamingo has been spotted on Odisha’s Kendrapara coast on Thursday. The rare bird was found in a farmland near Chhapali village under Mahakalapada block under Kendrapara district in the morning. Being informed, Locals along with environmentalists congregated at the spot to gaze and capture the rare bird through their camera lenses. Common Indian cranes are abundantly seen in the saline mangrove forests under Jambu Forest Range around Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary. However, the pink rosy flamingo is totally new in the environment. Pink flamingo is basically found in the subcontinent of America and Russia. It is commonly known as Phoeni Copterus Roseus which means a bird with Redish-Pink wing and bright eyes, said Environmentalist Shantwana Dash. On the other hand, a common flamingo turns pink after it takes surplus carotenoid-rich algae which is a carrot-like protein. However, she said, it is not the right season for migration. The lone bird has been accidentally deserted from its flock. It should be kept under observation, Dash added.
