Bhubaneswar: West Bengal U-15 player Ranit Maity with eight points emerged champion of the 20th KT Global School International FIDE Rated Chess Championship at the Chess Hall, KT Global School. The tournament was organised by the IIG Sports Academy, Barunei, Khordha.
Odisha’s Stitaprangya Sahoo and Tamil Nadu’s Gurubarna Raghuraman finished second and third with 7.5 points each.
The tournament has attracted a record participant of 340 players from 15 States all around the Country. A total of 150 International Rated Chess players including many medal holders and state champions.
The champion, second and third place finishers received a cash award of Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively along with trophies.
The tournament featured a total cash prize of Rs 2,00,000/- with a sizable 72 trophies and age groups, rated, unrated, Best Women, Best Veteran and Best Physically Handicapped prizes.
