Raja festival reflects Odisha's respect for nature, womanhood and cultural heritage: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar, June 14: Extending his heartfelt greetings to the people of Odisha on the occasion of Raja Parba, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described the festival as a living symbol of Odia identity and a unique confluence of Mother Earth and feminine power.

In a message issued on the occasion of the festival, the Chief Minister said Raja is not merely a celebration marking the change of seasons but a profound cultural tradition rooted in Odisha's ancient consciousness.

He said the festival represents gratitude towards nature and deep respect for womanhood, while upholding the sanctity of femininity, the power of creation, and the dignity of motherhood.

Highlighting the significance of Raja Parba in Odia culture, Majhi noted that the festival has elevated the self-respect and identity of the Odia community by placing womanhood at the highest pedestal.

According to traditional belief, Mother Earth, or Bhudevi, undergoes her annual menstrual cycle during the three-day festival and takes rest. In recognition of this sacred period of renewal, agricultural activities are suspended, and farmers express their gratitude to the soil that sustains life.

The Chief Minister observed that Raja also serves as a celebration of the dignity, freedom, and happiness of women. During the festival, daughters, mothers, and sisters are relieved from their daily responsibilities, allowing them to enjoy moments of rest, recreation, and togetherness with family and friends.

Describing the festival's philosophy as both humane and scientific, Majhi said a society that acknowledges the importance of rest for future creation and productivity demonstrates wisdom and foresight. He added that the same principle has inspired the state government's efforts to ensure dignity and respect for women in public life and governance.

Referring to recent initiatives for working women, the Chief Minister said the government has introduced a historic provision of additional special leave for women employees, reflecting its commitment to the empowerment and welfare of women. He further reiterated the government's resolve to improve the lives of farmers by transforming their hard work into prosperity and creating new opportunities for growth, progress, and recognition.

Majhi expressed hope that the rhythmic swings of Raja would inspire Odisha's journey of development to move forward with greater momentum. He said the sweet aroma of traditional Poda Pitha should strengthen social harmony and family bonds, while the sweetness of Raja Pan should fill every Odia heart with renewed hope, enthusiasm, and determination.
