Railway Minister gives nod for survey of Imphal-Moreh railway line

New Delhi, Jan 6: The Ministry of Railways has given its sanction for the final location survey of the new Imphal-Moreh railway line project ,to boost the proposed trans-Asia railway network to connect India with southeast Asia via rail. Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the railway line from Manipur's capital city of Imphal to the India-Myanmar border town of Moreh was "strategically important". “Considering the strategic importance, we will start the final location survey of the project. The final location survey will start within the next four weeks,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said in Imphal. Moreover, top official of North East Frontier Railway said that the sanction for the final location survey of the 111 km Imphal-Moreh section of a new line connecting India and Myanmar has been given by the Union Ministry of Railways. Once constructed, the new line will form an important part of the proposed trans-Asia railway network. During his visit to Imphal in Manipur on Wednesday, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted an aerial inspection of various railway projects in the region.
