Ragging allegations rock MKCG Medical College, anti-ragging cell to review complaint

Berhampur, Sept 2: A fresh ragging controversy has emerged at MKCG Medical College after a second-year MBBS student accused a group of seniors of harassment and intimidation within the hostel premises.

In a formal complaint, the student alleged that his seniors obstructed him from studying and compelled him to attend so-called ‘general body meetings’. During these sessions, juniors were reportedly forced to stand for hours, and those who resisted were punished with stressful squatting positions.

The matter allegedly took a serious turn on 18 August when the student claimed he was subjected to severe mental and physical harassment. The following day, after refusing to attend another meeting, the complainant said a group of seniors stormed into his hostel room, abused him, and issued threats.

According to the complaint, around six to seven senior students have been involved in repeated harassment. It was further alleged that the accused consumed alcohol regularly, played loud DJ music, danced inside the hostel, and created disturbances, hampering the academic atmosphere.

The issue has now reached the National Medical Commission (NMC), which has forwarded a letter to the Dean of MKCG Medical College. The college administration has confirmed that the Anti-Ragging Cell will meet tomorrow to review the allegations and determine further action.

The incident has reignited concerns over ragging on campuses, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of anti-ragging measures to safeguard students’ welfare and academic environment.
