Bhubaneswar: In another incident of police excess, as many as 10 persons, including two media reporters, were critically injured as police lathi-charged them brutally on the Grand Road in Puri last night.
The two injured reporters have been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital as their condition worsened.
According to reports, some locals were holding a demonstration at a petrol pump near the District Headquarters Hospital, Puri in protest against adulteration and low quantity sale by the petrol pump. On being informed, media reporters had gone there to collect information. While some of the agitating youths turned violent and ransacked the petrol pump, the police lathi-charged all who were present.
Even as journalists showed them Identity Cards, police didn’t spare them. Their cameras and mobile phones have been damaged in the attack. This act of police has been condemned at all levels.
