Puri, Aug 19: The sacred Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri today witnessed the observance of the divine Kaliyadalana Besha and Dhenukasura Vadha rituals on the auspicious occasion of Bhadrapada Krishna Ekadashi, commemorating the legendary Sri Krishna Leela.
As part of the ritual, Lord Jagannath appeared in the special attire of Kaliadalana, symbolising the episode when Lord Krishna subdued the venomous serpent Kalia in the Yamuna River. In this form, the Lord is adorned as if performing a dance upon the seven hoods of the serpent, with the serpent seemingly coiled around His divine form. Devotees had darshan of Mahaprabhu in this mesmerising attire, which recalls the triumph of good over evil.
The observance of Kalia dalana Besha is an annual tradition at the temple, reminding devotees of Krishna’s act of courage and protection for humanity. Alongwith, the ritual of Dhenukasura Vadha was also observed, depicting another episode of Lord Krishna’s leelas.
Large numbers of devotees thronged the shrine to witness the special rituals, offering prayers and seeking divine blessings on this spiritually significant day.
