Puri, July 20: Tension escalated at the Balanga police station in Odisha’s Puri when protesting Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers forced their way into the station, resulting in a scuffle with police personnel.
Three platoons of police forces were mobilized to tackle the situation and maintain law and order.
The BJD workers were staging a protest outside Balanga police station demanding justice for the 15-year-old girl, who sustained severe burn injuries after being allegedly set on fire by some miscreants.
The protest took an escalating turn when the agitators attempted to enter the Balanga police station forcibly, resulting in a scuffle with police personnel.
The party workers also demanded for the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, holding her responsible for the worsening law and order situation and accusing the police of inaction in the case.
Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to identify and nab the culprits involved.
Hours earlier, the 15-year-old girl was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi in a fully equipped air ambulance with life support on Sunday for advanced medical care.
To ensure her quick and safe transport, a green corridor was established from the hospital to Bhubaneswar airport.
Meanwhile, hospital officials confirmed that the girl remains in critical condition, with 70-75 percent deep burns covering her limbs, back, and torso. Although she was not on a ventilator, she continues to receive oxygen support.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has announced that the state government will bear all her medical expenses.
