Bhubaneswar, July 27: A two-member team from Balanga Police has travelled to AIIMS Delhi to record the statement of the young girl from Puri who was allegedly set on fire by three miscreants.
The team, comprising DSP (Headquarters) Kalpana Kanhar and Balanga IIC Chittaranjan Panda, reached the national capital on Sunday to further the ongoing investigation. The police are also expected to take statements from her father and other close family members.
Investigators are reportedly seeking to resolve discrepancies between the victim’s previous statements recorded at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and AIIMS Delhi. The current effort aims to clarify these inconsistencies and obtain a more complete account of the incident.
The Crime Branch team had earlier returned from Delhi and held a detailed meeting with the Puri SP at Balanga police station. During the discussion, officials reviewed the victim’s differing testimonies and assessed the reasons behind the conflicting narratives.
A high-level meeting was also held at the Balanga police station involving Crime Branch officials, local police personnel, and medical experts. It was collectively decided that the victim’s statement would be freshly recorded under the supervision of a Magistrate to ensure clarity and legal validity.
