Puri gears up for World-Famous Rath Yatra with full-scale mock drill

Puri, June 7: In preparation for the world-renowned Rath Yatra, a comprehensive mock drill is being conducted today. The drill is a joint effort by the district and police administration, aimed at ensuring smooth crowd management and emergency response during the massive influx of devotees expected in Puri during the festival.

With lakhs of devotees likely to gather, the administration is intensifying its readiness. The primary objective of the mock drill is to assess how effectively emergency situations can be managed amid the festival crowd. This includes medical emergencies, fire outbreaks, natural disasters, or any security-related incidents.

An Integrated Control Room has been set up in the Town Police Station premises, serving as the command hub during the Rath Yatra. Senior officials from both the district administration and police department are actively participating in the drill.

Ambulance services, Fire brigade, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force), NCC (National Cadet Corps), Scouts and Guides, Voluntary organizations, School and college student volunteers are also participating in the mockdrill.

The drill also focuses on how swiftly medical assistance can be provided and how patients can be transported to hospitals in case of emergencies during the Rath Yatra.

The operation is being conducted under the direct supervision of Puri District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain and Superintendent of Police Vineet Agrawal, along with other senior officials. Their active involvement highlights the seriousness with which preparations for the grand festival are being handled.
