Puri gang-rape: Constable among 4 arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Kumbarpada police in Puri have arrested four persons for allegedly raping a girl in a police quarter at the Jhadeswhari Club in Puri yesterday. The arrested included a dismissed police constable, Jitendra Kumar Sethi. According to reports, the four accused had picked up the girl from Nimapara offering a help to drop her at her village in Kakatpur area. The girl, who was on her way from Bhubaneswar to Kakatpur, had had got down at Nimapara for having snacks. After having tiffin, the girl was waiting for another bus to go to Kakatpur. Meanwhile, a person in uniform got down from a car and asked her where she would go. He then offered her a lift till Kakatpur. However, the car turned back and went to Puri straight. In the quarter, the Constable and another person raped her taking turns inside a room, which was guarded by two others from outside. The victim managed to take out a money purse from the constable’s backside pocket during the heinous act. The money purse contained the identity card of the constable. Basing on the proof, the police soon detained Jitendra Kumar Sethi and three others. After interrogation, they were all arrested this morning. Sethi was reportedly dismissed from job for indiscipline and criminal antecedents.
