Prof Nilofar Khan becomes first-ever female VC of University of Kashmir

Srinagar, May 19: Professor Nilofar Khan on Thursday took up the charge of the University of Kashmir’s vice-chancellor as first-ever female to be appointed in the post.

Prof Khan replaced earth-scientist Prof Talat Ahmad whose three-year term ended in August 2021.

Prof Khan, who is a professor in the Department of Home Science at the University of Kashmir, has been appointed for tenure of three years with effect from the date she takes charge.

Recently, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) also appointed their first-ever female vice-chancellors.

Najma Akhtar who was appointed as the VC of JMI has also been conferred with the Padma Shri award. At the same time, JNU appointed Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit as its VC. Pandit was a professor at Savitri Phule Pune University (SPPU) and also the first-ever JNUite to be appointed as VC of its alma mater.
