Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today directed completion of the ongoing probe into the police assault on lawyer, which sparked off strike in the Orissa High Court before the next date of hearing on November 9.
The probe will be supervised by Orissa HC judge Justice CR Das, directed HC Chief Justice KS Jhaveri.
Investigating Officer (IO) of the case pertaining to attack on lawyer by police personnel will complete the probe before November 9 and update Justice CR Das on a daily basis.
The High Court directive came after senior advocate Bijan Roy, taking consent of the Bar Association members, urged the court to intervene in the matter in order to find an immediate solution for benefits of all, including lawyers and litigants at large.
The lawyers’ association has been spearheading the agitation along with the Bar Council of Odisha are on strike since August 29 demanding the arrest of a police personnel for allegedly beating up a lawyer on August 28 at Nuabazaar here.
Meanwhile, the strike by lawyers will continue till November 1, said HC Bar Association president Srikant Nayak. He said that views of all Bar Associations of Odisha were sought and a meeting has been convened on November 1 to discuss today’s HC order.
