Price of matchbox revised after 14 yrs, to cost Rs 2 from Dec 1

New Delhi, Oct 23: The maximum retail price (MRP) of a matchbox will be hiked to Rs 2 from December 1. The last time the price was revised was in 2007 from 50 paise to Rs 1. The decision to increase the price was taken in a meeting by the All India Chamber of Matches at Sivakasi on Thursday.   Manufactures said that the price of matchbox will be hiked due to increase in prices of raw material. As many as 14 raw materials including red phosphorus, wax, outer box board and inner box board are required for matchbox making. The price of a kilogram of red phosphorus has increased to Rs 810 from Rs 425  while price of wax has also been increased from Rs 58 to Rs 80.
