President Murmu meets Mauritius PM Ramgoolam, sees stronger future for bilateral ties

New Delhi, September 16: President Droupadi Murmu met with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, highlighting the deep-rooted and enduring bilateral relationship between India and Mauritius. Both leaders emphasized the significance of their shared history, language, culture, and values, which continue to bind the two nations.

In a statement posted on X by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu expressed her confidence in the continued strengthening of ties under Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s leadership. "Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Both leaders agreed that the relationship between our countries is unique, built on shared history, culture, language, and values. The President expressed confidence that with Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s vast leadership experience, the longstanding ties between India and Mauritius will only grow stronger in the future," the statement read.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Ramgoolam visited Rajghat, where he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, marking a key moment in the final leg of his eight-day bilateral visit to India. He also signed the visitors' book at the memorial.

Prime Minister Ramgoolam arrived in New Delhi on Monday, where he was received by Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth. Sharing the news on social media, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal tweeted, "PM Navin Ramgoolam of Mauritius arrives in New Delhi, warmly welcomed by MoS for Defence Sanjay Seth at the airport."

Before his arrival in the national capital, Ramgoolam visited the Tirumala Temple in Tirupati and attended an event at the Bramarishi Ashram, where he was greeted by Siddhguru Sideswar Bramedswi Gurudev Swami, a respected spiritual leader. His official visit to India, running from September 9 to September 16, has included a variety of political, cultural, and spiritual engagements.
