New Delhi, Aug 16: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his memorial, Sadaiv Atal, in the national capital. The occasion marks the anniversary of Vajpayee's passing in 2018.
Along with the leaders, several prominent figures were present, including Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, Kiren Rijiju, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Vajpayee, a key figure in Indian politics, served as Prime Minister on three separate occasions: a brief 13-day term in 1996, followed by an eleven-month tenure from 1998 to 1999, and a full term from 1999 to 2004. In 2015, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in recognition of his contributions to the nation.
Dignitaries will continue to pay homage to the late leader throughout the day at his memorial in New Delhi.
