Pre-activated SIM card racket in Odisha: Another three arrested

Bhubaneswar, May 21: The Crime Branch which is currently investigating the pre-activated SIM case in Dhenkanal has arrested another three accused in the case. The investigating agency today arrested Prakash Chandra Sahoo (34), Santanu Kumar Sahoo (27) and Umakanta Mohanty (29). Police said that the accused were activating multiple extra SIMs with most of the D-KYC genuine activations and in this process those extra pre-activated bulk SIMs were being supplied to prime accused Dusmanta Sahu, the mastermind of the racket. With the recent arrest the number of accused arrested so far in the case has gone upto nine. The Crime Branch on April 30 had recovered a huge cache of pre-activated SIM cards along with several mobile phones and arrested three cyber fraudsters in this connection. As many as 19,641 pre-activated SIM cards, 48 mobile phones and Rs 14.32 lakh cash were seized from their possession. Crime Branch has also frozen two bank accounts having Rs 7.95 lakh of Dusmanta .Police has also seized two UPI accounts having Rs 1.6 lakh of Dusmanta. The investigating agency has also found that the racket registered SIM under the name of Lok Sabha  Speaker Om Birla.
