Bhubaneswar, Nov 15: Odisha will be celebrating Prathamastami tomorrow (16 November 2022). It is celebrated for the firstborn child who is called ‘podhuan’ of every family in Odisha. It is celebrated on the eighth day of the Krushna Pakhya or dark fortnight. On this day, the maternal uncles, who are known as as ‘ashtami bandhu’ present them with new clothes, and sweets. The mothers pray for the well-being and long life of the son or daughter as it is a belief that the first child becomes the flag bearer of responsibilities in the family after the death of parents. Moreover, Sasthi Devi is prayed on this occasion. Enduri pitha is made in every household to commemorate Prathamastami. Enduri Pitha Recipe: {"id":226758,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} Ingredients: Rice (arua chaula)-2cups (400g) Urad daal (biri dali) 1 & 1/2 cups (300g) Grated coconut-1 Jaggery-1bowl (100g) Chhena-1bowl Cardamom powder & Black pepper powder-1tsp Salt to taste Turmeric leaf Procedure: Take 1/2 cup of Black Gram and one cup of Rice, mix and soak it in water overnight, grind it, put some salt as per taste. Take some grated coconut, jaggery and let the jaggery get melt and blend with the grated coconut. Add on black pepper and a pinch of salt. Take a sheet of Turmeric Leaf, put some batter on the center of the sheet and top it with the jiggery and coconut mixture. Cover it firmly and put it over the cloth to get cook in steam. After 20 minutes, serve it on a plate.
