Prachi brings home bronze in thrilling 400m track final
India secured another athletics medal at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Prachi delivered an excellent performance to win bronze in the women's 400m final. She crossed the finish line in 53.21 seconds. Bahraini athlete Salma Naser won gold with a Games Record of 49.20 seconds. Iranian runner Zahra Zarei Manoujan took silver by clocking 52.38 seconds. Fellow Indian competitor Kiran finished fifth with a time of 53.41 seconds. Historically, Indian athletes consistently show strong potential in middle-distance events on the continental stage.
Other Indian athletes faced tough competition in their respective finals. Vishal TK finished fifth in the men's 400m race with a time of 45.48 seconds. Thai runner Joshua Atkinson won that event in 44.90 seconds. In the women's 1500m final, Parul Chaudhary missed a medal but recorded a personal best of 4:09.46 to finish fourth. Pooja secured sixth place in 4:16.78. Bahraini athlete Nelly Korir won the 1500m gold in 4:04.50, setting another Games Record.
Indian jumpers struggled to find their rhythm in the men's triple jump. Karthik Unnikrishnan managed a best effort of 16.02m to finish sixth overall. Praveen Chithravel ended his campaign without recording a valid mark. Chinese athlete Wen Su dominated the event, claiming gold with a record jump of 17.42m. Japanese jumper Manato Miyao secured silver with 16.77m, and Chinese competitor Ma Yinglong took bronze with 16.75m.
