Puri, April 24: Whether Rath Yatra is to be held this year or not, will be decided by the COVID-19 guidelines set by the Centre and State governments after May 3.
“The decision will be taken after assessing the guidelines, rules, strictures announced by the Union Government after lockdown ends,” said Puri Gajapati Maharaj, Dibysingh Deb on Friday.
The Puri Gajapati said that the decision of Central and State Governments are binding and especially under these circumstances we all must abide and adhere to the guidelines for public safety.
The chariot construction work will remain suspended till May 3.
“After May 3, in what manner we can proceed with rituals and ceremonies associated with Rath Yatra will be decided on the basis of the new regulations,” the Gajapati said.
“However, we would request the Centre to ensure that rituals of the Lord are not affected or interrupted,” he added.
