Bhubaneswar: With opposition cornering the State Government over the mysterious death of a lady PEO Smitarani Biswal death row in Jajpur district, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said that politicising any human tragedy especially relating to women is inhuman and this is kind of politics will never give any returns.
He also said in case anyone is not satisfied with the investigations; there are legal fora for relief.
Patnaik, while replying to demands for grants for the Home Department said, “Forget that I am the Chief Minister for 19 years or that I am the president of Biju Janata Dal. As a senior member of this House, I would like to mention something – Politicising any human tragedy especially relating to women is inhuman. This kind of politics will never give any returns.”
“Rape, murder, death of women – are extremely sad events. Politicising them, multiples the trauma and gives a very wrong message to the people at large and young people in particular. In case anyone is not satisfied with the investigation, there are legal fora for relief.”
The Chief Minister said that there an increase in the conviction rate in red-flag cases which has gone up to 41.48 per cent in 2019.
Maintaining that he has personally made more than 300 phone calls to petitioners visiting police stations as part of the Mo Sarkar programme, Patnaik said, “I want to send a message to all police functionaries – Do your job with commitment, without fear or favour. Do not bother about statistics of registration.”
