Police unfolds beheaded woman’s mystery: Widow murdered for 2nd marriage bid

Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: Chandaka police has unfolded the mystery behind the beheaded body found from the Chandaka forest. Investigations revealed that a widow named Puspalata Roul was allegedly murdered for rivalry on 2nd marriage. In a press brief, Commissioner of Police Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi said, a widow named Puspalata Roul (28) was living in Dharukia Basti under Mancheswar police station. She fell in love with Sajay Das aka Angada of Ganjam who used to stay with Puspalata at her rented house. However, Puspalata’s mother Minati opposed the relationship of the duo and drove Sanjay out. In the mean time Puspalata fell in love with Pritiranjan Pati of Bhadrak and got married with him at AMOFOI on December 24, 2020. On the other hand, Sanjay became vindictive on the marriage of Puspalata whom he was keen to marry. In the mean time, Puspalata broke with newly married Pritiranjan and came to stay with Sanjay at Phuleswari Basti under Khandagiri Police limits. The duo stayed there altogether since January 29 to February 1. On February 2, a dispute broke between them over Puspalata’s marriage with Pritranjan. Following which, Sanjay pressed Puspalata’s throat to death. To escape from police, Sanjay disposed the dead body of Puspalata near Chandaka forest after beheading her with knife on February 3. Sanjay took help of Srikant Dash aka Chandu, an early friend. As pre-planned, they carried the body with a bolero pick-up van to the spot, cut her head and disposed the beheaded body near Chandaka forest. They concealed the cut-head in a bush within Chandka elephant corridor. Then they escaped to Duspalla under Nayagarh with their bag and baggage. Investigating team identified the woman with the help of victim’s mother Minati basing on a tattoo. She informed police regarding the involvement of Sanjay in this case. Acting on it, Police team apprehended Sanjay and Chandu from Duspalla under Nayagarh district. During, police custody, the prime accused Sanjay confessed to his crime that he vindictively killed Puspalata as she married another man ditching him.
